  • Pascale Falek, Policy Officer, Office of EC Coordinator on combating antisemitism & fostering Jewish life

Facilitated by Kim Smouter, ENAR Director

The objectives of this meeting with ENAR members are:

  • To explain the current challenges that our communities face.
  • To build a stronger relationship with the coordinators.
  • To understand the challenges for them to address pressing issues at the European and national levels and how we can support.

Following discussions between the ENAR leadership and the European Commission's anti-racism unit, we suggest holding a follow-up meeting to the first online meeting held between Marion Lalisse and ENAR members in November 2023, this time including the three anti-racism coordinators.

As part of the EU framework to fight against racism, the coordinators (recently announced to be appointed as envoys) play an important role in the implementation of anti-racism policies and legislation, but also as contact points with civil society.

Considering the political obstacles that may exist in the EU to meaningfully tackle the different forms of racism, ENAR and its members aim to use this meeting to better understand the coordinators' priorities and strategies, as well as explore ways to increase constructive collaboration to address structural racism in Europe from an intersectional and solidarity approach.

Discussions will be based on the priorities of our members and specific questions for the coordinators on how to address these challenges. Input from members will be collected and shared with the coordinators ahead of the meeting.

The outcomes of the meeting could include the following:

  • More transparency and clarity on the coordinators' respective roadmaps and strategies to fight against various forms of racism, including structural and intersectional issues.
  • Increased alignment on how pressing issues should be addressed, including the adoption of a decolonial and intersectional approach.
  • Mechanisms to ensure the participation of ENAR members in anti-racism policymaking.
