Context

ENAR as an umbrella organisation, has the opportunity to connect with different organisations among its network. This provides a wide range of perspectives and lived experiences that provide the organisation to have a 360-degree vision on discrimination patterns. ENAR has been championing for already 25 years the fight against racism and other discrimination patterns and remains open to provide valuable insights in other ecosystems in which inequities still persist.

Our focus on combatting discrimination and racism in employment is not just about promoting diversity and inclusion – it is about dismantling systemic barriers that perpetuate structural racism. Employment remains a territory of inequality for racialised groups in Europe. From unequal access to education, lack of recognition of foreign credential, discrimination in hiring, micro-agressions to the European Union's economic discourse tying migrants to cheap workforce, the field of labor catalyses many intersecting forms of oppression. Our focus on combatting discrimination and racism in employment is not just about promoting diversity and inclusion – it is about dismantling systemic barriers that perpetuate structural racism.

Our approach is rooted in a vision of equity and diversity, aiming for universal access to rights, material, social, emotional, and economic resources for everyone. This envisions an inclusive form of equity that goes beyond merely removing economic and social barriers for ethnic, religious minorities, and migrants; it also calls for active state support in promoting racial and social justice.

Purpose of the Working Group

The Employment Working Group aims to provide a supportive space for ENAR members working on structural racism in employment; and Equal@Work partners. The working group's primary goal is to create a platform for dialogue and cooperation between CSOs and Equal@Work partners, leveraging the strengths of both groups to influence policy and promote equitable employment practices.

We would like to discuss with you:

  • What are the instruments that ENAR has to empower our members in this topic?
  • How do we understand structural racism in the field of labor and which intersections of discrimination unfold in employment?
  • What are the topics we think it's urgent to delve in according to the composition of our working group?
  • Who do we need to connect with to make our members participate in the ecosystem?
  • What are the things we can learn from this journey together?

First Meeting: 28 October, 13:00-14:30 (CET)

Location: Online (link will be shared after the confirmation of representatives)

The working group will be meeting regularly, the first two sessions taking place by the end of 2024.
