In light of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (21st March), the European Network Against Racism (ENAR aisbl), alongside other partners, is co-hosting the second ever EU Anti-Racism and Diversity Week in Brussels 21-22 March 2023.

The event aims to convene a European discussion on the current state-of-play of racial discrimination, its different manifestations and the existing policy tools to counter racism, mainstream racial equality and evaluate the ongoing European anti-discrimination agenda.

The European Commission's EU Anti-racism Action Plan launched in the aftermath of the Black Lives Matter movement constitutes a unique and a holistic political commitment to fight racism based on an intersectional approach with objective to advance equality in the EU and its Member States.

In the context of the shrinking of civic space, the rise of far-right political movements and anti-European sentiments alongside the increase of hate-speech and defamation against human rights defenders, constructive assessment of the institutional and civic priorities in relation to racism are required to effectively counter discrimination against racialized communities.

The Anti-Racism Week is envisioned to be a shared platform for institutions, civil society organisations, anti-racist actors, activists to come together and lead on solution-based discussions on the systemic gaps that are necessary to address structural and specific forms of racism in their visible and invisible impacts.

The event will offer a forum for exchange of promising practices related to anti-racist initiatives implemented on different institutional stratifications: European, national and local.

The exchanges will lead to concrete outcomes such as a set of policy recommendations and European Parliament working groups in order to ensure specific follow-ups taking up priority issues on board.

With the objective of providing diverse perspectives and expertise of the different stakeholders, the week will cover among others, the following topics:

  • EU Anti-racism action plan and National Anti-racism Action Plans
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Climate Justice
  • Intersectional discrimination
  • Migration
  • Remembrance and repair

The Anti-racism week will be hosted by MEPs:

  • Cornelia Ernst
  • Pierrette Herzberger-Fofana
  • Romeo Franz
  • Samira Rafaela
  • Isabel Carvalhais
  • Monica Semedo
  • Peter Pollak

Deadline to register: 13/03/2023
